B.Sc. Biotechnology I - Sem I
1. Chemistry I:
  • To study basic principles of Electrochemistry and physical chemistry.
  • To know reaction kinetics and to understand thermodynamics.
  • To get the knowledge of structure and bonding.
  • To study coordination complexes and essential and trace elements in biological processes.
2. Physics I:
  • To study fundamental concepts of physics like elasticity, viscosity and surface tension.
  • To study principles of electronics such as sound waves, their applications, Doppler effect and its applications.
  • To get the knowledge of thermodynamics and thermometry.
3. Plant Science:
  • To study fundamental concepts of plant physiology and taxonomy of angiosperms.
  • Awareness of plant diversity.

1. Chemistry II:

2. Physics II:

  • To study fundamentals of optics and optics correlated with microscopy.
  • To study Bioelectricity, Electrocardiogram (ECG), Electrocephalogram (EEG), Electromyogram (EMG) and Electroculogram (EOG).
  • To study semiconductor devices and principles of digital electronics and applications.

3. Animal Science:

  • To study taxonomy of animals and general classification of animal kingdom.
  • To study host parasite relationship.
  • To study animal tissues and their types.
  • To get the knowledge of applied zoology like vermiculture, apiculture, sericulture, pearl culture.

4. Statastical Methods:

  • To study fundamentals of statastics and introduction to collection of data.

5. Protein and Enzymes:

  • To study protein and primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structure of proteins with examples.

B.Sc. Biotechnology II - Sem III

1. Genetics:

  • To study Mendel’s law of Inheritance, Dominance and recessiveness and interaction of gene.
  • To know linkage, linkage groups, crossing-over, structural and numerical changes in chromosomes.
  • To study maternal effect and extra chromosomal inheritance.
  • To study transposable elements, plasmid, genetic recombination in bacteria and mechanism of recombination.

2. Fundamentals of Biophysics:

  • Awareness of instruments used in chemical analysis.
  •  To study analytical instruments such as atomic absorption spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, flame spectroscopy.
  • To get the knowledge of molecular spectroscopy.
  • To get the knowledge of molecular method such as Electrophoresis, Chromatography, Tracer techniques.

3. Metabolic pathways:

  • To study the basic concepts of metabolic pathways.
  • To get the knowledge of fundamentals of Biochemistry such as carbohydrate metabolism, lipid metabolism and respiration.

4. Ecology:

  • To study the fundamentals of ecology and concept of ecology.
  • To get the knowledge of ecosystem, food chain, energy flow in ecosystem.
  • To study Biogeochemical cycles such as carbon cycle, nitrogen cycle, sulphur cycle, phosphorus cycle.
  • To understand population ecology, population growth and evolution.

5. Molecular Biology I:

  • To study concepts of molecular biology such as DNA as genetic material, properties and functions of DNA and organization of genome.
  • To study molecular events such as replication, mutation and DNA repair.

6. Plant tissue culture:

    • Awareness of plant tissue culture in modern Biotechnology.

B.Sc. Biotechnology II - Sem IV

1. Immunology:

  • To study immune system of humans.
  • To get the knowledge of types of immunity, types of defense systems.
  • Introduction to cells and organs of immune systems
  • To study antigen and antibody, immune response and antigen-antibody reactions.

2. Advances in Cell Biology;

  • To study concepts of secretary pathway, protein trafficking and cell signaling.
  • To get the knowledge of cell division cycle, cell division types –amitosis, mitosis, meiosis.

3. Plant Biochemistry:

  • To study fundamentals of Plant Biochemistry like plant water relation, photosynthesis.
  • To study role of nitrogen in plants and nitrogen metabolism.
  • To get the knowledge of plant hormones such as auxin, cytokinin, and gibberlin.
  •  To study plant growth, phases of growth curve.

2. Industrial Biotechnology:

  • To get the knowledge of downstream process and product recovery.

3. Application of Biotechnology and Agriculture:

  • To study fundamentals of Agriculture Biotechnology such as crop improvement, somatic hybridization, artificial seed and germplasm preservation.
